It's Official

Ryan took his oath about an hour ago, so he is now a Captain of Medical Corps of the United States Airforce Reserve. It was a simple, short ceremony which took place in the ER. A flag needed to be present, so Jonathan held it while the oath took place. Ryan used the flag he had from Boy Scouts... so this flag now has a few memories attached to it.

The job he has for the Airforce is 44YX Critical Care Medicine. It is a competitive spot to get into and we feel honored he got it. He will not start the job until after residency, but we are both excited about it. We both feel blessed to live in this country, know a few people who have served, and wanted to somehow contribute. He will be the doctor attending the wounded soldiers on their ride from the pick up place near the battlefields to the hospital where the soldiers get treated. He feels honored to be able to serve our soldiers in this magnitude. He will be the third generation in his family to serve in the Airforce. If you wanted to call him by his correct title, it would be Dr. Ryan Scott Southworth Captain of the Airforce Reserve.
