On a spur of the moment thought, we decided to go to the pumpkin patch. It was a rainy/misty day and the first day the patch was open, so not a lot of people were there.
We started off by climbing into the wagon pulled by a tractor. It was a bumpy, but fun ride. We let Ella out of the stroller and she had a lot of fun touching the hay and looking around. When the ride ended, we spent some time looking around for the perfect pumpkins. Jonathan wanted a smooth, tall but fat pumpkin. His took the longest to find. Ella picked hers out quickly and then enjoyed running around in the mud tripping occasionally on vines. On the ride back Jonathan met a little girl who sat next to him and at one point she almost put her arm around him.
When the tractor stopped, Jonathan couldn't contain himself because it was time to go on some rides. It started to rain so he only went on two. The first "ride" was just a little course kids walked up to and at the very end slid down a huge slide. It gave Jonathan a wet bottom. The second ride was a little rollercoaster that has a loud noise at the end of the ride...almost like an air horn or mack truck. You could tell the noise bothered him but he had a lot of fun on both rides.
We then went to the barn and bought a very bumpy pumpkin. It has thousands of wart like bumps all over it. It will make a cool jack-o-lantern. We walked around and took some pictures of the kids and Jonathan found a mini maze kids could walk through. After that we visited the barn animals where we saw some baby cows (which Ella scared), chickens, lots of piglets, a pony and some goats.
Our last stop was to try the deep fried oreo cookies. I was pleasantly surprised how tasty they were. We let Jonathan get some cotton candy which could feed 3 to 4 people. I let Ella try it. At first she didn't like it, I think because of texture. She quickly warmed up to it and kept asking Jonathan for more on the car ride home.
It was a fun adventure, but very messy. Due to the weather, all the dirt turned into a thick pasty mud. The kids got dirty quickly and I was doing a good at staying clean until I had to pick Ella up... then the mud was all over me so I didn't care anymore. The first thing we did at home was take off the shoes and clean the kids up. It's fun to make new memories with my little family.
