moving up

Today was Jonathan's last swim class and he was pleased to find out he passed level 2 and will move up to a 2+. This is a huge accomplishment because he has been at a two the last three swimming sessions.

Let's go back a little in time shall we? After getting his report card from the previous session he was not satisfied with staying at the same level. We had a talk and I told him if we wanted to pass he must listen to his teacher and try all the things she asked him to do. At first he was his social self and wasn't completely involved but that changed after he spent two times in the pool with Ryan during our mini vacation. From that point, Jonathan could relax in the water. He could now concentrate on learning the different strokes.

Yesterday his teacher kept him a few extra minutes to watch him swim because she was still undecided what level he should be going into. He looked great to me and she told him he would move up... he was thrilled. Is this the same boy I saw three years ago at his very first swim lesson who did not want to get his face wet? It is and it's wonderful to see how far he has come.
